Level up your skills 🆙┃Create shareable content ┃No Shortcuts

I can’t give you “10 easy steps” to going viral on social media. Anyone who offers a “secret shortcut” isn’t being honest.

This is NOT a listicle of quick and dirty tricks to becoming the next Mr. Beast.

But what I can offer you is a brief rundown of the content creation principles that Hook Point has developed through thousands of research hours and billions of analyzed views.

So here goes…

First, take a quick glance at your email promotions folders. See anything interesting? Or does everything look the same? Chances are, those emails share something in common–mildly cheerful, inoffensive, but thoroughly bland and boring corporate speak.

Anyone who’s written copy or created marketing content for social media knows how hard it is to stand out. It takes a specific kind of clever intuition to understand the zeitgeist and break through the noise. However, if you want to create high-quality, engaging content that people like so much they’re willing to share it with friends, you have to level up your skills.

Improving your social media game requires that you put in the work, so we suggest you start with these:

  • Keep your ear to the ground: Stay up to date with current events and trends in your industry and beyond so you can identify themes and issues that are resonating with your audience.
  • Fully immerse yourself in social media: Treat it like a job (the fun part) and wade in until you’re over your head. Total immersion is the most effective way to become fluent in social media.
  • Analyze your competitors: look at the content that’s working, and even more importantly, what’s not working. Can you identify why?
  • Unshackle your sense of humor: This one’s scary.  A lot of us put wordplay and humor in time-out to avoid accidentally offending someone; however, audiences still respond to comic irony and memorable laughs.
  • Tell a story: Remember the movie where nothing happened? Of course not! Create content with a beginning, middle, and end. Make sure there’s conflict and tension.
  • Test, and test, and test again: Experiment with different messages. Observe the results. Apply the learnings to the next content produced. Repeat.

Going viral on social media isn’t luck and it’s not for the faint of heart. It’s not easy, but it is relatively straightforward and simple. No hacks…no shortcuts…but rewards are possible if you’re willing to put in the work.
